Fast feathering and they are very good foragersDo araucana chickens have the fast feathering gene or do they feather out slow? Also how good of foragers are they?
This trait is caused by an autosomal dominant, non lethal gene (rumpless Rp gene located on chromosome 2)Is the taillessness gene for araucanas heritable
Thanks for the information. what does autosomal dominant mean for this gene?
It means its not sex linked and its inherited in pairs(Rp/Rp) on both genderThanks for the information. what does autosomal dominant mean for this gene?
its completely dominant as Rp/rp+ are as rumpless as Rp/Rp, most genes are either incompletely dominant or co-dominantSame meaning for this gene as for any other gene:
Autosomal means it's not sex-linked.
Dominant means that if the bird only has one copy of the gene, you can see the trait. So a bird with one copy of the rumpless gene (dominant), and one copy of the gene for having a tail (recessive), will be rumpless.

True, but its rarely mentioned in an informal setting like these forums and most people are not aware of the difference between incomplete, complete and co-dominance of some genes, for example dominant white is actually co-dominantI thought that was the usual meaning of dominant--completely dominant, unless stated otherwise.
