Araucana's with no color???

If you want true araucana or ameraucana you will need to get them from a breeder, hatcheries don't sell either breed-they sell EE's

I purchased EE from Mt Healthy and Meyer. Meyer has a more consistant breed. I got all green layers from Meyer. I got a few blue egg layers out of Mt Healthy, a few cream egglayers, 85% green egglayers.

i have 2 hens that lay the green egg and one roo that looks like the EE chicken. I hatched some green eggs last summer and all hens lay green eggs. Im thinking about getting another hatch together this spring. I would part with one of the hens and the roo also if you know someone heading this way.

Even if you hatch chicks from colored eggs if the roo does not carry the gene the resulting chicks might not lay colored eggs when they grow up. That's why it can be hit or miss unless you get chickens from an individual that has never mixed in other breeds. Alot of hatcheries just call them araucana, ameraucana, or some altered spelling so long as they lay colored eggs even if they were crossed with something else.

I don't really care about getting a purebred chicken and I while I would like to get green or blue eggs, it won't be the end of the world if I don't, so I don't mind taking the chance on some more EEs. They are easier and cheaper for me to get.

I can't imagine that one breed of chickens has healthier eggs than any other. It's what they eat that makes the difference.
