Are 3D printed toys safe for chickens

I know many dont have 3D printers but I use PLA filament, filament is what the stuff is before it becomes the object that it becomes. PLA is biodegradable and generally is not sharp, I want to make small toys for my 3 silkies. It takes PLA a year to break down. Will my chickens try to eat it? Are 3d printed objects safe for chickens?

Chickens don't really play with toys -- not like parrots do. They will certainly eat the plastic if they can peck it into pieces they can pick up and swallow.

How about giving them a nice pile of dry leaves or dried grass clippings to dig through and a few things to jump up on and/or hide under?
