So, I finally have Silkies. Ive wanted them for a long time after reading so many threads about how docile and gentle and easily handled they are.'

Well, from their first little day on this earth, OMG, are they skittish little ones.

They are 4 weeks old now and havent got any better. If anyone makes any kind of movement around them, they totally freak out, run amok and stepping all over each other..

I have 2 Mottled Cochins and 1 Millie in with them 2.,and the only one that allows me to hold it is one of the cochins which I suspect is a roo..It is Very personable and Loves to be held so it can perch on me, peck bracelets and preen my hair.

So, do Silkies calm down as they get older or do I happen to have 4 Adorable , fluffy , nuts??

On a side note, I absolutely adore these babies, however, there is a good possibility that I will need to find a Wonderful , caring home for them due to personal reasons beyond my control that has Absolutely Nothing to do with their silliness, and it has saddened me.

If the right person or family came along, who would pick them up in person, since I Refuse to ship them, I will consider letting them go.

I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, close to Lake Superior and Marquette, MI.

Well, it will be interesting to see what other silkie owners have to say..

PM me , on the other hand, if you are interested in the little guys..

I hope you keep them they are just so cuddly and i bet they are see you as one of their beloved!!!! I say they are curious and social not skittish,,,,,,Remember they cannot see all that well because of their eye feathering. I wish I had enough money to come and pick up & return with them. Please be sure to place them VERY carefully. Take Great care...

My Silkies were hatchery stock and were also very skittish. I didn't keep them beyond 12 weeks of age, so I can't say if they mellow out as adults. They were really cute and I adored them, but they did not want to be handled ever.

My silkies were from a supply store and they got less skittish the older they got but are still a little skittish. If you make sudden movements or noise they run. Hope this helps.

OKay please remember that all silkies are almost blinded by all those feathers and rely on shadows, hearing and ground moving to be alerted. By that I put on my sweetest farmwife voice and say Come here babies and the come running. Sudden moves will scare them. Ours are all Show quality but I think the way that you approach them is important. i also bring them in the house a great deal so they are very used to me!!!! Here's a pic of me and some of the girls resting.

As I said I'll gladly add more children....Send them to me if you cannot tame them down.... They call me "The Bird Lady of Bowdon"
