There are trees next to the location of our run( not built yet) that has small dark purple berries , I have no idea what kind they are I found a lot of them on the ground today. It got me thinking if they could possibly be toxic to our chickens?

I don't know where you live, but I'm sure that there's some sort of agricultural extension program through a university that can help you identify the trees in question. Or, if you're confident in your plant identification, go to the library and try to identify it yourself. There are lots of trees that can have "small dark purple berries" but the ones I was thinking of were mulberries. I could be completely wrong, because I don't have enough to go by. And if I had at hand a list of trees that have fruit that could be toxic to chickens and rattled them off to you, you wouldn't know if your tree was one of them. So the first step is identifying what you've got.
