MY DUCK hasn't been able to walk for 6 MONTHS.

Do you notice any swelling or hot spots on his foot? Did you check under his foot a bumble[infection from a cut or a splinter etc]If you find anything underneath his foot post a picture? Could he have been stepped on by accident?

There's only this wound under his foot, but I don't know if he feels pain because of it or not. He tends to close the digit on the opposite side.

It does look a little swollen where that wound is it may not have anything to do with him folding his foot but I would treat it those types of wounds can get infected. You can clean it real good using warm Epsom salt water then dry and use an antibiotic ointment on it without pain relief wrap it for a few days to keep the foot dry and give the ointment time to work. where his foot is folding you could try making him a boot to keep his foot flat. Since he isn't walking, this could be from not getting enough exercise, and the muscles are weak but a boot can help You can take something like a cool whip container or butter container etc lay the foot flat on the container make an outline of the foot then cut the plastic wrap with some type of tape or vet wap lay the foot onto the boot then wrap with vet wrap to keep the boot on and the foot flat go up the leg with the wrap to keep him for getting it off they are pretty good at it. This will also help to keep the wound wrap from getting dirty. Are you still getting the wheel chair? working to keep his foot flat in normal position will help him better maneuver the chair when he starts using it.

My duck pepper had very similar case just like yours. Up until about a yr ago he could walk despite having his issues. He slowly started walking less and less and then stopped eventually. He would use his wings to add crutches until his wings seized up as well. All I could do is make him comfortable in my home since he could no longer be outside. Warm baths and then just eventually quick dips because he did not like being in water to long is what I did for exercise and cleanliness. His feathers even lost their coating and he was not molting any more either. Also losing patches of feathers. Sadly pepper recently passed on Dec 7 at 3yrs old. He lasted a little over a yr in that condition. Which I thought was a miracle not knowing what exactly caused that. I did everything between niacin and vet visit but his condition never improved. When I came to that conclusion all I could do was make him comfortable with a life inside which I did. Worst was I did have to separate him from his brother Jack but there was no way pepper would have survived outside for very long. I got him a bed, brought his food and water closer and when he wanted to move spots I would just assist him. All i can really tie to his condition was we had a brief cold spell and after that he was never really the same. Here are some pics of him from a duckling to about a couple months before he passed. He is the tall duck with the white patch chest.
My advice is just keep making him comfortable as best you can. A wheel chair sounds great and I wish you all the best for your little guy. 🙏 ❤️

I'm really sorry for you duck. God blesses him. Did your duck suffer from leg dysplasia?

My falt was to let him outside in the rain for two times! The second time I managed to rescue him, but I let him to go back outside because I had to leave for work and didn't want to spend some time to create a bed inside. I believed that a duck could handle the rain even though he was completely wet. I was an idiot!! I regret myself. He started to not walk for the first time after that. He healed and stayed in good shape until last May. He even changed his feathers during last summer, but he's loosing them again now.

I hope the wheelchair can ease his life. I want my duck to live for many years on. The female can stay here without him.

Yes, he was born with that condition. He always had a very wide stance his legs would stick out further from his body and as his condition progress i would say he legs continued to further spread till he stopped walking. I tried therapy with him to keep him walking but the moment I let go he just flop down and crawl across the floor. He lost alot of the underbelly feathers from the rubbing with carpets so I made him this chest wrap to help with that. He actually loved it because it also kept him warm.
Yea for us I think that he may got frost bite or just extremely cold when we had that spell. His wings were the first thing I noticed something was wrong because he couldn't not fully expand them anymore and he began to have trouble preening himself thats when we brought him in and watched him try his best but ultimately I couldn't stop the progression of whatever was happening to him. If pepper had wheels im sure he would have loved it to be able to still be mobil in some way. All he add was me...lol he developed a very particular call when he wanted to move spots in the house so I just get up and move him per his demands.
