And would 1 be happy with a flock of chickens? There is one for sale not far from me, for $10. They also have Saxony--do they lay well? I've always wanted to try duck eggs, and maybe sell some. I know Khaki Campbells are better layers, but these are available and close.

They will lay plenty of eggs from Spring through Fall. As soon as the days get shorter, they will wind down and not lay anymore.

If you put a light in the coop to give them extra hours of daylight in the winter, Khaki Campbells, Welsh Harlequins, and Indian Runners will lay year round.

Yup...my runner lays like crazy. So did the khaki I had. Buffs lay over 200 a year, but they do take some time of in the winter. My buff almost kept up with the others
