Are Ayam Cemani chickens really that "good"?

There are cultures that believe that the black skin and flesh have medicinal properties. I've never eaten a black fleshed chicken so I don't know what they taste like, but the Asian market nearby does sell processed silkies. I'd like to try one some time, I'll have to see if they still have them.

In my opinion, they're beautiful birds, and from what I hear they have fairly good personalities. Besides that, they're rare, and I have to admit that it does make them a bit more appealing.

I had a Ayam Cemani rooster our broody hatched from a local breeder.
As far as meat, I have no clue. He was quite flighty, but I will say I didn't lose any hens while freeranging when I had him. Could be coincidence, or just luck.
He was good with chicks, and kept peace amongst the hens.
I gave him to a friend because I wanted a CCL rooster to have the blue egg gene.

Did you ever hatch any eggs from him? I've always read that crossing an Ayam with something else will bring over some of the hyperpigmentation, but I've never been able to find any good photos.

I did actually. It was a cross with a silkie, so that may not be helpful for what what your trying to see.
I will try to dig up a pic and post it.
I hatched only 4 from him, and gave the chicks to a family member.
