Hi, I was wondering if anyone has experience with bantam roosters and if so, are they good flock protectors? And would they mate with my standard size chickens?
Thanks!

I have a buff brahma bantam roo. He is super nice and can fertilize my cuckoo maran eggs. Those are some pretty big hens.

When I was a kid I had a banty roo who managed to breed the LF hens without any issues. But, you really can't expect a roo to protect the flock from predators. At night, he will be as helpless as the hens, and during the day, the roo will sound the alarm and lead the flock to safety, but you can't expect him to keep a serious predator away. Do you really want to introduce banty genetics into a LF flock??????????

My bantam roo, Hector, is a Dark Brahma. He’s a “larger” sized bantam.
He’s always got his head on a swivel.
Alert and ready to give alarm calls even when it’s just the dog coming out of the pet door lol.
He seems to have no issues mating my Wyandottes or my sex link.

For warning the flock? G s they do great! Not so good for fighting off hawks or cats though :/ lol
