Are black Sex Links friendly / docile?

Black Stars versus Red Stars

Reds are better (?) in that

1. They lay sooner, they lay more, they lay larger eggs, yet, they eat less, consume less feed because they are smaller.
2. They have a bit more personality.

Worse (?)

1. Since they are smaller, they don't produce a good food carcass at the end of their days.
2. They are super friendly and funny, but they can be tough little operators in the chicken politic world.

Better and worse are somewhat relative terms. What is better for one keeper isn't for another. Same with negative. Hope that helps.

that preety much says it.just a all around better fit for us. eat lot less since feed is getting so much higher and lay sooner bigger eggs and are so freindly.

I've had both, and have found the RSLs to be friendlier, smarter, more curious, active and vigorous, AND better layers! I think their eggs are prettier too, a medium brown and sometimes even terra cotta color (whereas BSL tends to lay light brown or tan). I do find the BSLs prettier to look at with their big bodies and shiny black/green feathers, but that's the only edge they have, unless meat production is very important to you.
