Hi All, I have 2 barred rocks ( Salty and Pepper) and I am 100% positive the one on the left is a rooster (thats Pepper) because he crows and humps the other hens. But the one on the right (Salty) has not crowed yet and is a lot skinner. But the tail feathers are throwing us off and she can be pretty men to the other hens. Salty is nice to the kids as she lets us pet her for as long as we want and she/he doesn't fight with the rooster at all. Any ideas if she is a Roo?

Looks like two roos - the reason the one may not be crowing and is behaving differently yet is that he feels subordinate to the rooster that is crowing and showing more rooish behavior

Those are roosters.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! How many hens do you have?... They usually recommend about 8-10 hens per rooster. You might also consider if you really want a rooster, if you don't want fertile eggs / to hatch chicks you don't really need one, and you may prefer to have an extra hen for the eggs.

We have 10 all together. We thought we had 1 rooster to 9 hens. So now we have 8 hens, 2 roosters. We got them as chicks in hopes of having a lot of fresh eggs for the family (only 1 hen has started laying). We actually like having a rooster as part of the backyard family. I just didn't think it was a good idea to have 2.
