Are bourbon reds known for being particularly loud?

I wouldnt say particularly loud, they do have thier moments though. Thier gobble is a low rumble, and not as loud as a Regular rooster crow, but if something is setting them off they can gobble 5 minutes straight where a rooster usually just lets out on crow then goes about his bussiness. On a good note, he will be nowhere near as loud as guineas.

Our Bourbon Red girls are much louder than our Narragansett female, usually when they are squealing and ganging up to chase away dogs, while the Narragansett doesn't usually join in as much. The Narragansett and Bourbon toms don't do much chasing, but sometimes even my voice will set off their gobbling.

I have bourban red and the gobblers gobble almost all the time when noise is made..

If you have heard turkeys gobble before then you will know what to expect..

If you live around an area where other people will complain, you would get it...

hee hee hee thanks marlinchaser... sorry but i cant hear your reply over my shrill shrieking guineas
;-)

nope BR's are not overly loud

but

we have one little BR hen named Runner and she talks all darn day. very chirpy. but she is the only one. and she runs, hence the name.

and

right now our jakes are very gobbly.. they are all pushing and shoving each other. and it doesnt help that i stand out on the deck and yell "Gobble!" and they all gobble back.

unless you live in city and have mean neighbors i wouldnt avoid BR's just b/c of a few cute gobblings.

good luck!
