I need some genuine advice from someone whose maybe dealt with this before. I was given two pekin ducklings, one had a seizure and died two weeks ago, the other has a severe niacin deficiency that has turned into a slipped tendon of both his legs. He is able to get around but hes walking on his "knees" and its starting to chafe. They are 7ish weeks old
He can swim but hes definitely not living his best life. Has someone ever had this happen and had a duck turn out okay or is putting him down the most humane thing I could do? He's a sweet guy but I worry about his quality of life. Any and all advice/stories are welcome. Attached a pic of how bad this poor guys legs are.

OK, I see you still haven’t gotten any help so I’m going to read to you from one of my duck books, but first let me ask if it’s possible for you to take her to a vet?

Treatment for slipped tendon

For ducklings – immediately upgrade their diet to a brand name Feed formula
Vets will commonly recommend a multi vitamin and review dosages with you
Don’t mess around with home remedies or concocting your own dosages
Vitamin overdose can be fatal if you miss calculate
Protect the injured duckling by separating them from other ducks, trying to keep them in view of others if possible
For Ducks –
Slipped tendons are commonly misdiagnosed as sprains in early stages. When the sprain does not improve vets will normally x-ray and pinpoint the diagnosis. Wrapping the ankle daily using waterproof adhesive, bandage tape, and or Vet wrap can give it good added support and improve the life of the joint, which can keep your duck waddling along for many years to come Diligence is the key when it comes to this strategy your vet may also prescribe anti-inflammatory pain medication if the ankle joint is swollen as well as a treatment plan to prevent arthritis.

I havent been able to find a local vet that treats ducks but I've consulted online with one which was where my diagnosis came from. They are on Mazuri waterfowl floating feed and I add brewers yeast to their food as well. When I got him it was already probably past the point of fixing without surgical intervention but from what I've read its not often done due to cost/stress to the bird.

He doesnt appear to be in pain and he is mobile, but if he was to be outside hed be high risk for predators and I'd imagine more susceptible to injury since hes hobbling around.

If you can get this and give her 1 ml per day orally ( either in a little dish with some mealworms or other treat or use a syringe without a needle and give directly orally following the directions from the post I will share) the liquid b complex has more niacinamide than just about anything else and this is what many of us here use)
