Are Buff Orpingtons heavier than RIR's

I have 3yr-4mo RIR's that I've raised from chicks.

I recently obtained 6 Buff Orpingtons (three weeks old.)

Is it me or are the BO's much heavier then the RIR's were at 3weeks?

What about adult sizes? All the charts say both birds are 7-8lbs (adult weight)

Orpingtons are a heavier breed than RIR.

Orps. are biger by 2 lbs...lol.. Orp. Rooster 10lbs RIR Rooster 8lbs

It's probably just feathers! My RIRs have the perfect hen sihloutte- while the Orps look like they're made of marshmallow. You'll see when they get older: when they bend over to eat they form a perfect (fat)triangle. Love them!!!!

Yes, they usually are, but I can tell you that good breeder quality RIRs are usually heavier than hatchery Buff Orps. Those deep rich dark reds are humongous!

Buffs take a little longer to mature into their full weight in my experience.

Excellent,.. I thought I was going crazy.

I just remember my RIR's being big but still quite lite, but my little buffies are solid little feather puffs.
