I got 14 Easter eggs, spray painted them brown, put them in the nest box and within a week my buff went broody. I had been wanting to get one of them to go broody, and this was one of the ideas suggested on BYC.

When I first read this I thought it said "I got 14 easter eggers (the chickens!) and spray painted them brown..." I was like, why the heck would you spray paint a chicken brown????

SO DID I! I'm only on my first cup of coffee...what was your excuse?! My next thought, though, was "How the heck did you get them to hold still for that?"

Thanks, Zaxby's2--for the laugh AND the info!

X3! I thought why would someone spray paint a chicken?!

I've had a number of buff orpington's over the years. Mine are all regular layers. Only had one go broody, when she was about 1 year old. Thought I'd have a problem breaking the broodiness, but all I did was remove the unhatched eggs and she stopped. I love my BO's and as long as I have chickens I'll have some of them.

X4! I thought the exact same thing and had to go back and reread the post before I realized what it actually said.

I was drinking decaf when I read it! Wouldn't it be funny if someone was researching how to make a chicken broody, read this and went off to paint 14 easter eggers brown? Then they were like,"why didn't that make my chicken broody?"

Our BO is our favorite, she's pampered and the have the sweetest dispositions! Only problem with that is that its landed her at the "bottom of the pole" but we deal with it...but she went broody at almost a yr old and then hasnt since-she'll be 2 in March

We just love her though...my EE and Wyandotte are VERY consistent though and havent missed a day.
