I accidentally picked up some buttercup chicks when I first got chickens, without realizing. When she grew up she turned out to be a beautiful hen. How come I rarely see other buttercups. I went to a very large poultry fair a couple years ago and she was one of only one other hen there! There were only 2 buttercups out of what had to be 2000 chickens!

According to the Livestock Conservancy, Buttercups are on the Threatened list. That means there are an estimated 5,000 of them on a global scale. This refers to true heritage birds that meet the American Poultry Association standard.

Livestock Conservancy has a really informative website. Check it out!
