Are cedar shavings safe?

For bedding right out of the bator. I'll put paper towels over them for a week. But I've read cedar isn't the best. Just asking, cause I got chicks hatching and my F~N~L just gave me 4 bags of cedar shavings. Would I be better off running to the feed store for something different?

cedar is toxic to chicks, pine shavings is what you want to get.

Anything but cedar shaving for the chicks. IMO, cedar shavings are for dog beds and nothing more. The aromatics are an irritant.

Avoid cedar at all cost!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with zatsdeb, use pine.
