Are chicken collars good?

Pics
Just weighing in here.
Free eggs work to convince many neighbors to tolerate chickens.

In this situation I am puzzled how you would get a legal notice if you are allowed to keep hens (I know you don’t have a rooster). What did the notice say?

Anyway, a visit to the neighbor with a dozen lovely eggs and a conversation might just solve the problem.

Hi, everone. I live in a neighborhood with a houses close by, and we learned the hard way that our neighbors HATE chickens.. 🥺 This morning, I think they hate chickens even more... Every second they were talking so loud, you could even hear them on the moon! So as to not get our chickens taken away.

Who would take your chickens away if you’re allowed to have them? I know you’re trying to be a good neighbor. But dogs, mowers, crows, ravens leaf blowers and pressure washers are all noisy in a neighborhood.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Let them be curmudgeons, put up a tall fence on their side so they can’t see the hated chooks and call it good. (Probably best for protection anyway)

How high is the roost? Maybe lower it to less than 2' high.

I can't help with the neighbors.....but ...maybe borrow my coon hound lol that dog is NOISY.
When my neighbor complained about the roosters in the neighborhood I offered to put my dogs outside. I told her I'm sure they could out noise the roosters. Yeah she doesn't complain to me anymore.
I’m waiting for my across the road neighbors to complain about my roo. They had beagles in cages outside and would leave them for entire weekends.

Those poor animals barked themselves hoarse.

I have no idea about a collar on a hen but I have a question to everyone saying that collars are cruel, dangerous, animal abusers, etc.:

What do you consider better a crow collar until a bird can be re-homed or it's head chopped off ??
People need to do more research before they start keeping chickens. The fact is that hens can be just as loud as roosters. A roosters crow isn’t typically any louder than a dogs bark. If a person isn’t allowed to have roosters then I think it would be a good idea to understand the risks involved. Statistically the hatch ratio is 50/50 male:female. The accuracy of sexed chicks is ~90%. At some point most people will end up with a rooster. It’s very simple to ask at the feed store or the breeder what their policy is if you end up with a cockerel. If it’s not an option to return them then maybe consider purchasing POL birds instead to guarantee they are female. That way if you can’t chop off the roosters head and eat him for dinner, as we do, then you don’t have to worry about getting a rooster.

I knew hens would be loud, I was ready for it, my neighbors however weren't.

I hope it doesn’t seem that I was pointing at you, I definitely wasn’t. I agree, there are a lot of noises in a neighborhood and as long as you keep flies down and do what’s legal you will be fine. The idea given by someone for a solid fence between you and the irritated person is an excellent idea. I hate neighbors like that.

If you're lucky enough to live where you can have chickens don't give up your rights .Adding collars to hens or roosters is not a tool you want to use unless absolutely necessary.Try and gain support from other people in your community and educate them on the benefits of raising chickens for meat and eggs(or pets).I own property in 2 different locations but can't move on either one due to restrictions

Ask them if they are willing to shield their bathroom or kitchen window when they turn on the light during the night.
If your chickens are bothering someone else, I don't think it's reasonable to ask someone else to go out of their way not to set them off.
It's up to you as the chicken owner to contain them in such a way that they aren't exposed to night time lights.
The same would be true of dogs. It's not everyone else's responsibility to fence up their property. It's your responsibility to keep them in your yard.
