Are chickens clever? Are yours?

So for 3 days in a row I carried my chickens, 2 at a time to their new coops. I had to juggle coops to make way for new hatches. So 2 lil flocks of same age chicks had to be moved into 2 new coops. It's now the evening of day 4 and both sets of chooks have put themselves to bed in the right coops with not one in the wrong spot. I think that is pretty clever. Do you think chickens are smart? Are yours smart? What clever things have your little geniuses done? I'm hoping you have some cool stories 😎 🤞

Kiwi may be clever, but I wish I could say the same for his girlfriend, Pippin. When she wants to go back into the run (I let them out to eat grass) she runs into the chicken wire, and I have to herd her to the door.

I do find it amazing how independent chicks are. When I hatched them, they behaved like little adult hens and cockerels.

Hi Shell! Seems they are really clever when it comes to comfort, food, and doing what they want.

I have about 5 that are escape'es and free range when they choose. They only do it when they are in the uncovered unsecured run.

I have another that insists on laying eggs on a storage shelf in the coop. I've put stuff up there to block her & even covered it on the front with chicken wire. Yet again another egg. Some kind of gymnastics to get up there. Lol

Molly Mae says she's smarter than she looks 🤣
