Are chickens colorblind?

Chickens can have strokes or seizures, heart conditions, viral or bacterial infections that can cause neurological damage and sometimes these can effect their eyes directly and make them go blind. Another possible cause is disease, such as Avian Pox or Ocular Mareks. Quarantine them in case it is a disease and make sure they eat and drink and is kept as stress free is as possible. I would also advice taking them to a vet that knows poultry and have them thoroughly examined. Good luck!

I have taken both aracaunas and put them in a cardboard box, does the silver one with the tumor need in there too and what about the japanese. All of these chicks were sold in the same batch from the store. Are all six contaminated?

I just bought 3 SLW and 3 ameracaunas yesterday and 6 straight run and two australorps the day before. The six are in an elevated brooder in my kitchen. The 6 and 2 are in a dog kennel and the 3 and 3 are in a cardboard box next to the dog crate. Eughh!! Could all of my chicks have this now?@@!

It's a bit tongue-in-cheek in tone - but there's some interesting stuff in there.

Humans (and most mammals) have 3 sets of cones (R,G,B color) and one set of Rods (night vision/greyscale) - chickens don't really have Rods, but they have 5 sets of cones (R,B,G, Violet-into-some-UV, and some really weird double-cone thing) - Like most birds, they see a lot more stuff than we do during the day.
