Are chickens safe pets to keep?

Yes your right! My chicks are 7 weeks old. When should I start worming them? What do you use? How often? Do you have to change wormers like you do with horses to keep from building up a resistance?

Yes, change wormers to avoid building up a resistance. . . .

I've used safegaurd, Valbrazen, and eprinex. . . .

I worm mine for the first time right before they are due to start laying. That way I don't have to worry about tossing any eggs.
So, around 4 or 5 months of age, mine are wormed for the first time. After that, I worm twice a year. I use to do it in October and April. However, I am thinking about delaying it a month this year and doing it in May and November. My girls were laying really good in April and I was still collecting eggs for hatching. So, I think I will wait until May this year.

Some folks have lots of troubles with worms and have to worm their birds more often, like quarterly. What is important is to remember to follow up with the SECOND dose of wormer 10 days after the first one. That is too kill the hatching worms. BREAK THE CYCLE is important and can only be done by using that SECOND dose 10 days later.
