The chicks I raised last summer and so far this spring are really fond of a very small red plastic hanging feeder. They could care less about the reel feeder. I'm thinking of buying a large red hanging feeder rather than use my galvanized hanging one when it's time to switch. Would painting a galvanized feeder red be safe for chickens? I would probably just spray paint the outside of it. Mayby if it chipped though it would present a danger. Any opinions on these 2 issues?

I wouldn't paint the galvanized feeder, if they are obsessed with the red feeder, they will get over it. If you paint it will prolly chip and get into the food and could be hazardous to your chickens, Good Luck!

You could take the red one out till they get used to the galvanized one then put the red one back in later

I'm happy they like the red feeder, I just want to make them happier with a larger one if it is the color they are attracted to, LOL.
