Are crows known to attack chickens?

I've had problem with crows recently, mainly raiding their field throughs, eating eggs laid outside, scaring the girls away but nothing aggressive.

But today I spotted a crow in the chicken run chasing away one of the girls. Unfortunately I popped it and had to put him down. I feel really bad about it but it is what it is. I read it's relatively rare and in fact they may be a hawk deterrent.

Crows are smart so I'm concern the "word" may get around in the crow community.... could there be "retaliation"? :(

Very good article here btw, thanks as usual!

Almost forgot, would a bobbly head owl be enough of a deterrent beside hanging CDs? Screen Shot 2018-06-18 at 3.54.06 PM.png

Crows will help reduce the likely hood of Hawks, but they can be aggressive. If they think there's an easy food source they will return. The owl decoy I don't know. Seems to me that hanging a chicken predator around the coop might be worse on the flock. Others may have better insight on that.
