Last week I also received a batch of chicks from McMurray Hatchery and we lost 11 out of 27 chicks. Tomorrow we are getting the replacements plus the chicks to fill the order of 25. Someone on here mentioned that they use crumbled hard boiled egg yolks to help start there chicks. My partner found 20 - 30 duck eggs that nobody around here eats. Would it be o.k. to use those?

Thanks,

Yes, eggs are excellent for them. Very nutritious and packed with all the things babies need, seeing as how that was their food source for 3 weeks in the egg. I scramble mine tho. I brought my 2 silkies to life when they were 3 days old as they couldn't figure out how to eat the chick food. They loved the eggs and ate them like crazy. I use them as treats to train my chicks as well.

Thanks for your advice. That is just tooooooo cute about training your chicks. Most of the chicks will go to my neighbor /partner. I was just interested in getting a Delaware flock as I think they are so pretty plus they are so endangered. Both of the Delawares died in the first batch so I ordered an extra 2 plus the 2 replacements. The gal misunderstood me and I am actually going to get six girls and a roo.
