Are egg-eaters breed specific?

Oh dear. If 6 or 7 chickens went for the egg laid in the open it looks like they have learned that bad habit really fast.

I really think the roll away nest boxes are going to be the only solution and hope they only lay in them because it's obviously not just one or two birds in the flock eating the eggs.

I'm pretty new and can't add much help but have a few questions of my own.

When chickens eat eggs - is there any evidence left at all ?

Roll-Away Nestboxes - Do hens lay in them ? I ask because I've read hens like cozy nesting boxes with nesting material . . . but roll-away nest boxes do not have any nesting material, correct ?
Other than perhaps short astro-turf.

No experience here, but from what I've read...

People find a bit of yolk on their beak or face sometimes. You know, there's an old expression, that I haven't heard used in years: "she had egg or her face," meaning, she was caught with the evidence, or caught in the act. Bet younger folks on here haven't heard of this; it was common when I was young.

What I've mostly seen suggested is that rubbery shelf liner, a couple layers of it, or carpet scraps. If I had astro turf scraps around, though, I'd no doubt use them. If they seemed hesitant I'd probably add a few strands of hay.

My husband camped out one day and was watching for several hours. He saw a few suspicious chickens checking out the nesting boxes and thought they might be the problem when all the sudden there was a ruckus behind them, and a hen had laid an egg on the floor and 6 or 7 chickens had grabbed it and shattered it and ran in opposites sides on the chicken house. I experienced the same thing today.
