With the sudden spike in temperatures here, I've noticed my chicken run is teeming with flies. It's gross for me, but is it ok for the chickens? I'm kind of hoping they'll treat the flies as a fun source of protein.
I can only say based on my experience, the chickens don't eat the flies. I can't stand them myself and really don't want them all over the food and daily poop droppings so we try to get rid of them.
So far I've used fly paper, homemade fly traps (they can fly in but not back out) and the vanilla Christmas trees (those have worked the best so far).
