Are Guineas SUPPOSED to smell bad?

I never noticed the claimed bad smell with any of my guineas.

Their coop with insufficient ventilation did smell bad due to the higher protein in their feed.
So far my Guinea has not had a bad smell, but it definitely has a different and somewhat distinct smell from the other bird species, collectively, that I have handled ...except maybe penguins ...and ostrich ...they both have distinct smell of their own ...and, oh yes, flamingos! ...a whole different level of smell!
😂

Let me rephrase: ...definitely has a different and somewhat distinct smell from the other garden bird species, collectively, that I have handled.
- phrased much better.

I asked a few people about this during the course of the day and my go-to avian expect here in South Africa told me that the bad smell of stressed Guineas led to a folklore that they carry maggots in summer when they breed, and thus are inedible.

Does anyone know how they produce the oder? My guess is that it is from a grand? Or is it coming from their crop?
