Are meat birds dirty?

Okay, now I'm feeling like a crappy Cornish X mama. Mine get to roam and also have a nice clean coop but still have poop on their butts. The belly and breast are just fine, it's just their bums. Am I doing something wrong!?!? This is my VERY FIRST time raising chickens of any kind!!

I think the problem is that if they squat they fall down! Mine squat a lil, but not enough to help. lol

I think the bald butts are because they grow SOOOO fast that their feathers don't have time to grow in.

My meat birds always look crappy. Like you said poo feathers,...and even the breast were always filthy and missing feathers. Dunno for sure,.....but I ate them anyways...lol

yep this is a factor,...I had too many in my "meat coop" when I started out. It should only house maybe 20 birds,....I had 60 in there at one point,....but these were not my babies,.....these were strictly slaughter birds,..so yes i treat them completely different. At one point I hated them and wanted to go on a mad killing spree in the coop...lol,.....I had too many and they were driving me nuts! But We managed,....and learned A LOT.

My laying hens,....they live like queens.
