Can muscovies be profitable since they take longer to grow out than other breeds, like a pekin? I've also heard that they eat way more than other ducks.

But apparently the meat is leaner so idk if they can be sold for more because of that.

Has anyone had any luck with making a profit? Or are they more just for a hobby?

I'm crossing my muscovy with Pekin for meat ducks. I'll see how it goes.

In my experience this has caused somewhat of a reduction in fertility, but the ducks hatched are extremely good for eating.

They become mules. That's why they'll be perfect they won't be able to create offspring. Just be for meat, unless I keep a female for eggs to eat.

In my opinion muscovies are the best duck for eating. The meat is leaner and more flavorful than the mallard derived breeds. They are slower growing. If considering raising for profit, don't quit your day job.
Don't quit your day job for anything sustainable farming! - Sadly!

Did some of the apple eggs hatch? ;)
Poor duck! Pesky hormones!

I gave her some eggs. It's been a long time, but I think they were mallard eggs. She was a blue mallard/Muscovy cross that I kept because she was so pretty.
