Are Muscovy Ducks Worth It?

I actually sold off most of my scovys because they are low production considered to other breeds. They don't lay as many eggs as other breeds, so you are potentially feeding them to only hatch 12-20 eggs a year. Even taking eggs away, which will indeed get you more eggs, with their tendency to go broody they will stop laying for a couple weeks here and there, so will still be less in the long run. And incubating their eggs is a fine art. I do enjoy muscovys more than other buck breeds, but to make a profit it wasn't going to happen when I am limited in my number of flock size.

As others have said, if you go into the venture hoping to make money, then your cost to profit ratio will be depressing...

However, if you go into it for the hobby and enjoyment, the eggs and meat are just an added perk. There are a couple threads related to chickens that members have tried to figure out a model that would, at the very least, break even for eggs and meat birds.
