I was told to hang cabbage peices for them to avoid boredom and my girls are scared of it so I took it down n cut a lil up as a treat outside. They can't stand the stuff... Are they "slow" or just picky??

It's normal for chickens to be scared of new things. Give them time and they'll figure out that it's a treat and eat it. My chicks used to run away when I gave them greens, but after a day or 2 they devoured it!

Welcome to BYC. Chickens do not like change and are cautious about 'new' things. This is typical of many 'prey' animals. Chop the cabbage into fine pieces and offer a little at a time.

Ok. Ty for the info cuz I generally give up after a day or two and of course I'm sure the scratch grains they get doesn't motivate them to try new stuff. Today im gonna try a hard boiled egg, many on this forum say they love it. ; )

Mine had the exact same reaction to cabbage 5 months ago and have never learned to like it. They love collards, mustard and dandelions, so I feed them those and keep the cabbage for me. ; )
