Hello backyard chicken community I have a question that I'm kind of concerned about.
So I got 4 baby chicks on my birthday on march 21(Ameraucana,Rhode island red, black laced wyandotte and a Orpington all 4 are so adorable)and noticed that the wyandotte and rhode island started laying eggs in just 3 1/2 months and read on Google that chickens start to lay eggs in 6 months I don't know if I missed something but I'm just concerned if this is normal or not please write in the comments if this is normal,Thank you for taking your time to read my post!

I'd suggest that the 6 month egg-laying age be considered an "average". Some lay earlier, some later. Whilst it's very young to be laying, as long as they are healthy then it's something to celebrate :) Just be sure to offer optional oyster shell, in a separate feeder so that they can access the additional calcium needed for egg production.

X2

And if they were chicks in March, they're closer to 5 months old... many start at 5 months...

If they were purchased on March 21 they are at least 21 weeks old coming up this week. Did you count weeks or just estimate months? If purchased from a feed store they may have already been a few days old. How long have they been laying? Mine always seem to start right around 20 weeks.

If they were 2 weeks old when you got them, and they started laying 3.5 months later, that's not unreasonable. What were you feeding them? Protein content? Fermented or dry? B/c they came of age right around the summer solstice, that would have prompted earlier laying. If they stayed on starter instead of switching to the lower protein grower, that would have also urged them towards earlier laying. My birds typically start laying at 16 - 17 weeks, staying on fermented starter. But, they don't reach sexual maturity until the days are already getting shorter.

Second day second egg...lol. Although small. So professionals what should I do to increase the size
