I'll only add what others have said, make sure to dig proof as well.
Tacking hardware cloth to the base and extending it out at least a foot (cover it with soil) will be worth the effort.

I truly appreciate all the help and description of what I needed to do in order to make it safe for our chickens. I just want to say thank you and GOD bless you! We are more comfortable and now feel completely secured…
