are my chickens too old?

I bought some hens from a farm auction, no eggs , are they too old? her are

How long have you had them since you bought them? The stress of the auction (and possibly their previous owner) could have put them off. Then add to it that egg production tends to fall off during the winter.

Thanks for adopting them - whatever their age. And I've heard that chickens can lay until they are 15 - 20 yrs old. Of course, not nearly as much as when they're 1yrs old. Maybe someone else knows better, but I bet that now that they've got a good home they'll start laying a bit.

To me the rhode island red at the top is just too young. She still looks like she has baby feathers the ones with spots. The others are too far to see. But in any case... Yes birds can stop laying for 2 or 3 weeks depending on how secure they feel and then they will start up again. So be patient and give it a while..

Assuming they are old enough to lay,
give them a few weeks to get comfortable with their new
environment and they start up again.

When I first got my chickens that I had bought off a farmer it took them 3 months before they got settled and started layin!

That first hen looks like she's in a moult to me. Her neck feathers are short and her tail almost missing. I believe she's a mature hen, but if you post her feet, I bet we could tell for sure. From the pic, her feet look worn as aging hens do. Doesn't mean she won't lay tho and I would definitely give her time. Moving her and if she is moulting will definitely put laying off for a while.

I bet they will lay once they calm down and get adjusted. Judging by the wing feather shafts, I'd also say in addition to moult, they had a rooster too that may have stressed them out.

Thanks for all the info.Its getting close to winter now, so I don't expect to see any eggs till spring. One of the other reasons I got them was to keep my other 4 chickens warm thru winter.So 13 chickens should stay warm in an 8x8 coop?Or should I add a heat source?
