Are nest boxes part of coop area calculation??

When calculating the square footage of the coop, do you include the nest boxes? I have a 4x8 coop, but the nest boxes take up the end two feet. So do I have 24 or 32 sq ft? That's a difference of two chickens!

Chickens are basically ground dwelling birds. If the nesting boxes are elevated where the chickens can get under them, they do not count against the square footage. If the nesting boxes are not elevated, they do count, so your square footage is reduced.
