So I just picked up my second batch of chicks EVER. My first group is 9 weeks old now and in the coop. Anyway, these new little guys, (4) 3 day old Easter eggers are acting different than my others in that they are laying all sprawled out with their necks and wings spread far apart. They are not huddled either so I thought they might be too hot but the heat lamp is only on half their brooder with access to cooler temps on the other side. They are still laying directly in the heat, which is still around 90*. Anyway, since I'm new at this and pretty clueless, I'm worried. Should I be? Or are they behaving normally?

They might be overheated, but that's okay. Just move the lamp over a little more. My babies did that when we didn't even have a lamp on them, so I'm pretty sure it's normal anyway. :)

Ok! Good to know :) I just moved the lamp almost totally off them because of this and now I'm panicking that I'll make them cold! I just had a baby (a human baby haha) 3 months ago and I didn't even panic like this over her...geez

Give them something to cuddle up against. They'll share the warmth with each other and the item they're snuggling. It's alright!
