While growing up I was not allowed a pet until I could get a job and pay the vet and food bills myself. Mom having 5 children said it was not fair to own one you could not afford to take care of. I finally got a dog and did pay for every thing for it. Now I have 25 ducks, a Chihuahua that by the way lets me know every time I get an Amazon delievery so she is a good watch dog, 2 finch birds, a 5 stripe skink and a Goldfish. I pay for everything for them and love them all. Some people that cannot afford vet bills and food bills cannot get pets. They are still good people, making wise decisions and sparing the animals suffering and hunger.

^^^ WISDOM.

Now, hate, that's a different thing altogether. Cross him off your Friends list and lose his number. He's probably a serial killer.

Im Not No Way GIF
I was thinking the same thing

My adult niece would dearly love a pet, but she's allergic to cats/bunnies/guinea pigs and her job schedule makes keeping a dog or parrot (either of which she would adore) pretty much a no-go. She lives her pet fantasies vicariously through my sister's farm and my critters.
Wait Niece is still weird, but not in a "No-Pets" sort of way. Does that count?

As someone mentioned that weird doesn't have to mean an insult, or even judgement for that matter. To me, people without animals, or even without an interest in animals, are "weird" because animals have been my entire life and the main/only thing that has ever filled my head. I just don't know anything different but I DO 100% understand all the reasons someone may not, or even should not, have an animal.
They were my childhood, they were apart of my education, they're my job now.
Sometimes I wonder what a pet less life would be like and I know, for me, it would be the worst decision EVER. Animals have and do help with my mental and physical health. I’ve had times the only reason I'm getting out of bed is for my animals and the only reason I go outside and move around is because of them. I can't imagine having a life where I'm basically the only thing I have think about or look after. And no, I don't/can't really connect with humans to make up for that, definitely not in the same way I do with animals.
I also see no one getting defensive over someone calling people who keep animals weird, which they most definitely are as well 😉

My son (23) has a few friends that aren't into pets. One made a comment about dog hair on the furniture, I tossed him a lint brush and I said . . . "That sounds like a you problem, you're welcome to clean yourself a spot to sit, or not . .your choice." The friend looked embarrassed, my son looked surprised I'd say that.

The friend didn't bother to clean a spot and just sat down. He never made another comment like that and plays with the dogs when he comes over.

I had several pets as a kid but couldn't have any for quite some time as a young adult due to renting apartments.

When we bought our house with a yard two weeks later we got a dog, then another a year later, then a few years later the chickens happened, lol.

I can live without animals, but would rather not. Most people on the other hand, well . . . there's the door >>>
