Are polish tophats that stupid?

Its not like they had just feathered out. They were old enough to be outside, it just started to monsoon after I left for work. And the bird was within INCHES from shelter. Like, 3 inches!

I got him from Poultrylady. She got her eggs from scbirdfarm. Crele is the name of the color I think. Look up the username and there is a website with pics. Crazy looking bird isnt it. And one of the smarter ones!

Ahh Yep. I've gotten most of my polish from Terry at SCbirdfarm

I had gotten some crele hatching eggs, but didn't have any luck. At the time my hen was broody so they went under her, some got broken, and the others were taken by something that has never been identified to this day

I was very disappointed, but now I got some cuckoo from him, and some gorgeous chocolate & a khaki, so I'm VERY pleased

What I am saying is that chickens don't usually die from being in the rain. I have to think either they weren't old enough (fully feathered does not mean they are old enough to get that wet and cold) or there was something else wrong with them.

We have had several very heavy rains here where it just come almost a total flood plus our temps have been in the low 40's. Bird Brain is north of me so she is probably going down to 40 if not barely in the 30's. That combination would probably be enough to induce hypothermia in the bird. Plus that she said 2 of them died during these heavy rains and 2 met with unforturnate accidents--drowning in the pond and being pecked to death by another bird.

Could it be possible the last bird did not go into the shelter because it was being pecked on and bullied?

That is the problem....

My birds were penned up. Infact they were inside a coop. It just leaked a littled cause we got an inland hurricain, and there was an inch of water inside. They simply stood around until they got stuck in the mud and drowned.

That is what happened to me. It didn't even start raining until I left for work. Mine were like 3 months old. And they drowned inside the dang coop....

How sad!

I doubt it stayed in the rain because it was being picked on. There were only about 5 birds on that side of the fence and there was about 80 ft of shelter next to it.
