YES, possums are horrible. they will come back every night until your chickens are all gone. i hate them!

we had a possum kill two hens last night. :( on the plus side, it won't be back! we sent that nasty creature to the great chicken coop in the sky!

okay, so its brother came tonight, waiting in the back of the coop before dusk hoping I'd lock the chickens in with it for the night...saw it and dispatched it, cleaned the coop out again and now the ladies are shut in there safe with their roo until dawn! Two possums in two days!

I'm going to bet that the possum is living either under or in the coop with your flock. It wouldn't be the first possum reported this year to be living with its food and I doubt it'll be the last.

The ones here don't bother my adults (and they're bantams), but will mess with a broody hen and eat babies/eggs. A healthy, adult chicken has little to worry about from a possum. Raccoons are a whole different story.

Grinners is what we call them. They are certainly a risk but they are weak and not near as determined as other predators.

I would rather have 10 possums than one raccoon. Possums are easy to catch and easy to predict.

I am so mad. I just went out to collect eggs and feed and water my chickens and there is a animal in the hen house eating the eggs. It is secured hen house and they got in, so I ,etbout the chickens so,they would not be corned, but cannot get the animal. Do not know the kind. It has a long tail, that has ridges on it, and pointed face and squat body. Mi thought muskrat, but looked up,picture and not that, looks like huge tat but is not and has furry fur, not raccoon. Hope my chickens are safe
