If I kept a breeding trio of quail together (one rooster and two hens) would the eggs stay fertile year-round or are quail limited to a breeding season. I am trying to figure out how many eggs I could hatch in an incubator year round. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Coturnix? If you provide extra light it will help them lay thru winter. I would get a few more hens.. 5/1 or 6/1 ratio works best that I’ve found and get a 90% fertility rate on eggs.. 8/1 is the max I’ve used and it drops significantly at 8 hens to 1 rooster, 65%..

My experience is with chickens, not quail. But with chickens, if conditions are right for the females to lay eggs, that usually means conditions are right for the male to be fertile too.

I would expect something similar with quail (if eggs get laid at all, they will probably be fertile), but I do not know enough about quail to be quite certain.
