The base looks so small it seems that the chicks would have trouble finding the water source, has anyone used one for bantams. I'm getting four cochin bantams next week and I need to buy a new water base. Should I stick to the usual type or should I try the quail base?

The regular base with a few marbles in it is probably more universal for you in the long run. Unless of course you plan to raise quail or pheasants...

I buy the quail waterers just for new chicks. I replace it after a week with a regular chick waterer. Cheap insurance as a drowning preventer.

My chciks drank out of the quail waterer for the first 4-5 weeks. Besides the drowning issue, it's easier to keep clean. The pine shavings don't get into there as easily. They did fine with it.
