I am wondering how far to extend my run's apron. The only real threat I am worried about are the coons.
Are they good diggers??

They can be, but like all other animals they'll always go to the base of the fence or wall to start digging. In the past I've used apron wire two feet wide but these last couple of tractors I'm using it only one foot wide and it's worked fine. Just make sure it lays flat on the ground.

.....Alan.

Don't think a raccoon will dig under an apron of 12". I think you'll be fine with that. They are know for their "ripping and tearing and prying open" more than digging. Good luck!

A friend told me she watched a Raccoon rip off the cedar shakes of a coop to get at the chickens. The owners were not home so she ran over with a broom to chase them off.

Thanks!
We ran 3 foot wide length of wire around the coop and secured it with cinder blocks on top. I hope it works, until we are able to bury it!
...can they pry off the plywood?? We used a ton of screws, so I hope not!

I don't think so.
But one did chew (to little pieces) the 3/4 inch plywood board that was used as the step plate in a coon trap. Then he got out the drop down door that is only supposed to open inward.
He bulldozed his way out and he never came back. He must have been huge.
