Are skunks considered predator?

We've seen racoons, a fox in our backyard.

Last night was the first time we've seen a Skunk!
My chick is in a pet carrier at night in the garage, safe.
I'm almost afraid to put her out in a coop now!
Her coop and run aren't done yet.
I let her free range during the day and put in the carrier at night.

Skunks are occasionally considered predators. They aren't a popular problem, not like coons or fox, but they have been known to occasionally feed on chickens or eggs. I wouldn't put the chick in her new run until it is completely done!

If they can get into the coop and the nest boxes are low, they will eat all of your eggs. They take them right out from under a broody hen also.

As a youngster we trapped plenty of skunks and sent them on their smelly way back to their Maker.

I have a little one that hangs around my pens at night and I can walk right up to it, has no need to be scared. All of my birds are secure and I welcome the extra set of eyes watching over while I sleep. My main problem is dogs and a friendly skunk hanging around is a good deterrent.

YES!!!!!
Remove it! They will definately kill your chickens. I have only lost 1 chicken to a predator and it was to a skunk! Plus they can cary rabies and other diseases.

My pens are 2x2x1/4 angle iron and 1/8" expanded metal, unless he can run the torch on the welding truck they wiill be fine. They are called secure parts bins from Govliquidation and modified.

That is quite the pen. The only predator you have to worry getting into those things are two legged!

Bears might be able to shove it or push it, but unless the latch breaks, I think you are good from any type of predator.
