Are Sumatra's good layers?

I'm thinking of getting some Sumatras next spring, but some sites say they are really good layers and others say they lay very few eggs. I was wondering if anyone who has Sumatras could tell me how well they lay.

I'd say no. They are more productive than most game breeds but nowhere near as productive as most DP and egg breeds. Perhaps in the neighborhood of 100 or less eggs per year.

If you're only wanting them from an egg production standpoint then no, I'd say you wouldn't be pleased with them. If you want to enjoy a gorgeous bird and help preserve them by breeding them to the APA's SOp then I say go for it.

They are good players but seasonal and very prone to going broody. Small to medium white to tinted eggs.
