Are the new pellets supposed to look like this?

I am sorry you got product that had so many fines. No, we do not want our pelleted products to look like this. It is possible that someone forgot to set off the first or last several bags of the run. Humans make mistakes sometimes, which is why we have a satisfaction guarantee. You may take any bag you are not happy with back to your dealer for either a refund or a replacement. We want you to be happy with the product! As for color variations -- we do not add any color masking ingredients to our products, so they may vary in color from batch to batch depending on variations in ingredient color. For instance, soybean meal can be light golden to caramel brown in color, which can have a significant impact on the color of the end product. If you could provide me with the date code off of the bags purchased in Gilroy, we can trace this back to the relevant batch at the plant. The date code should be stamped on the bag or tape and will look similar to the one shown in the thread. It will start with 4 (for 2014) and should give the month and the three-letter plant designation (in this case, probably TRL). Thank you!!

Thank you! We will move forward with tracking down the issue and preventing it from happening in the future.

Thank you! There have been some issues like this with some of the mills here in CA. Did you hear about the turkey poults necropsied at Davis that had a vitamin A or E deficiency (don't remember which)?

I have no idea what brand of feed they were being fed, or if it was caused by a storage problem. Everyone, please note that I'm *not* saying that they were being fed a Purina product!

I had to return two bags of Flock Raiser crumbles this fall/winter because they were nearly all powder. I have noticed this to be a problem with Flock Raiser crumbles on and off (get at least one powdery bag each winter). My local store reluctantly exchanged it but acted kind of like I was complaining for nothing, even after I showed them how powdery it was. This makes me not want to buy Purina anymore. Good quality Flock Raiser crumble is not too powdery at all, but a bag with more than 1/2 powder is a complete waste of money and time since the chickens can't eat the powder.

My local TSC is the same way when I return bags. They were even annoyed when I returned a bag of *moldy* flock raiser.

The other store I go to, Silva's, has much better customer service and I'm now buying most of my feed from them. They also sell Purina, but it's too expensive, so I have switched to a brand.

Hi Barkinghills!

We at Purina Animal Nutrition want you to be happy with your purchase, and we want to know when you are not. If you do not get satisfaction locally, please call the 800 number on the bag; our excellent team of customer service representatives will help you and will make us all aware of the problem so that we can begin the work of correcting it.

It is always wise to hang onto the bag when you purchase feed; the sew-tape at the bottom has a date and manufacturing code on it which is invaluable for allowing us to trace the exact run of the feed in question. This is true for ANY product – horse feed, cattle feed, swine feed, etc. Every major manufacturer has a code somewhere on the packaging that allows that particular run of feed to be traced.

Never throw the bag away until you are happy with the product! It is also helpful if you can email us a picture of the feed (our representatives will help you with that). This provides us with important information for resolving the problem.

I'm having the same problem with the all feed from the Turlock, CA mill. Had one batch that was okay, but several have had a large amount of powder.
