Are there any goats that do well alone?

my goats will do that..the whole getting separated and then crying bloody murder. well, my girls do..jack likes to get away by himself and the girls freak when they see that hes not right by them.

A single goat will be miserable and as a consequence it will make you miserable too. It will holler endlessly and when it is not doing that it will be figuring out how it can escape its pen and come up to the house. One goat is a very bad idea. Been there. Done that.

I agree that goats are herd animals and would be lonely if not with another goat, however, our goat is an exception to the rule. He started out with two goat friends, but we had to get rid of the other two when they became aggressive toward our girls. That left Domino alone, but we also have many other animals including horses that he gets along with. The funniest thing is that he really bonded to one of our dogs.

I think a lone goat would be fine as long as you let it in the house.

Edit: too funny! I love the goat and the dog!

Here's a cute story:

Once my husband was driving down the street and he say a pygmy goat racing toward him on the side of the road, with a pit bull and a mixed-breed dog in hot pursuit. He pulled over and was turning around when he saw an Animal Control officer, so he jumped out and told the guy that a goat was in peril down the street. The Animal Control officer zipped off in search of the goat and dogs.

About a week later, my husband was once again on this same street, and running toward him at full speed was the mixed breed dog, and behind him was the pit bull, and behind the pit bull was... the goat.
