Are there seasons predators are more common??

During hawk migration (if your location is affected),
and when predators have young,
there can be an uptick of activity.

My worst ever event was March 30th a few years ago, when a mangy sick fox killed ten nice laying hens one afternoon! I came home to bodies everywhere, awful. He was nearly bald (seen killing my chickens by a nearby workman :mad::mad: ) and probably denned up at night because of the cold. A neighbor was able to shoot him the following week, as we couldn't get a safe shot when he returned.
Otherwise, that safe night time coop has worked very very well. An occasional hawk event has been our main issue here.

A careful reading of the preceding 12 posts shows why it is important to list a general physical location. For instance, the raccoons in Canada are said to hibernate while those just across the border in up state New York seem to tighten their belts and tough out the winter.

Also hawks migrate in and out of regions so what might be a hawkless area one season can be hawk central during the same season but in a different location, environment, or even country.
