I think these are all roos, but I'm not sure. They are just over 3 months old. What do you think?

I'm surprised, I thought for sure #3 was a roo because of the tall curving feathers on it's tail and bigger than the others. Here are a few more pics of #3 in case it makes a difference.

I'm excited that it might be a pullet!!

I do agree 3 is colored more like a pullet but I still think it's a rooster. Saddle feathers and hackle feathers look like they're coming in. Not as much comb yet, but could just be slower to develop. Where did you get them? Might not be a pure barred rock, that would account for the darker color.

Anyway, post a pic in 2-3 weeks and let us take another look.

I hatched these in my incubator. My roos is a BR, the hens are BR, RIR or Sex-link, not sure which eggs were which, so it's very likely they could be mixes. Darn, if these turn out to be roos, 6 out of 6 eggs from that hatch were roos. Thank for everyones input!

Okay, that explains why the color is dark, cause only daddy was a barred rock. Sorry about your rooster luck.......them's tough breaks!

well if it was an RIR mum then they are sexlinked... And if the Dads a barred rock then all the barred ones should be females. If the mum was a sexlink though then it doesnt matter

All of those are cockerels. I see the iridescent skinny saddle and hackles on all of them. There are no pullets at all in the photos, no matter how light or dark they are. Pullets never have those skinny saddle feathers. Trust me on this one. I've raised BRs for years now, probably grown out hundreds of chicks.

Quote: INcorrect. You have that backwards. The RIR must be the rooster bred to a Barred hen for it to be a sex link, sorry. If the rooster is a BR, then all chicks will be barred, no sex linking at all.

I read that it is... WHY does it only work one way?
