I would vote no, they are a whole lot redder than buff orp chicks I've seen and they look to have yellow legs.

Thank you for your opinion. I am so sad and I am crying as I write this......I have fallen in love with them, BUT because of where I live, I cannot have loud, skittish chickens. That's why I specifically requested Buff Orpintons.

I don't know what to do.........

I've named them, I love them, spend time with them, they sleep by my bed, .... I check on them every two hours to make sure the temperature is ok........my heart hurts.....

So continue to handle them, interact with them and they will be most likely calm. The red breeds that I have had contact with--Rhode Island, Comets, Buckeyes have all been fairly calm and with a lot of human contact, I would venture to say you will be fine.

Since you already have them and don't want to give them up, X2 what dewey69usa said. Handle them, socialize them, and get them used to people and things as much as possible. Did you get them from a hatchery or breeder? All chickens make noise, and most of the popular red feathered brown egg layers are not going to be extremely different from orps.

Sammy, those are definitely not buff orpingtons, not with that dark red. I agree with the others that the other red breeds are probably just as good as buff orps, but I don’t think that’s your problem.

I’m feeling pretty cruel right now, but I really think those are red sex link males. They are still pretty young to be sure of sex so I hope I’m wrong. I don’t know where you got them, but I think you might need to start thinking about what you are going to do if they do turn out to be males.

It's OK, Ridgerunner.....you're not being cruel, I appreciate you being up front. Yes, I am thinking ahead as to what to do if they are roosters. I got them from a lady here in Florida who has almost every possible breed of chicken. She said she gets her chicks from a hatchery in Texas and she pays extra for them to be hens.

Kelsie....I got them from a farm here in Florida. She has many different breeds of chickens. She said she deals with a hatchery in Texas and said that she orders them sexed - Hens only. I will continue to socialize them. Thanks.
