Are these chickens what I was told?

you could get any color over the rainbow with ee's from blue to green to tinted to brown to even a brown that looks pink, they may lay white. i would hatch them just don't mislabel them they will be ee's but hatching will depend on the demand in your area if there are people around looking to buy chickens that could give a rainbow of eggs then its worth a shot to hatch and sell.

i asked a question about egg color myself and the 2nd post on that thread is a good help if you know the breeds involved or at least one breed that was involved it can give you an idea of what egg colors to expect

Barred Plymouth Rock pullets.

these are not barred rocks and the left is a cockerel sorry
1) feet are white/slate
2)the pattern is cuckoo
3) on the first if you click and enlarge the pic you can see the saddles

now they could very well be cuckoo marans though but given that they should have some AM in them im guessing olive eggers now if the eggs turn out to be a dark brown then they are marans :)

Greeeatttt - so I have at least 3 males... and I don't need/want 3 males... I only wanted one so I need to get rid of those two red/brown ones.

The only bird that makes noise is the white rooster.

I went out and took more pictures - more up close and of the legs - trying to get a better idea on things....

So it looks like I can keep the two black/white speckled ones that are both female... and keep at least one of the brown/red ones that was female.... and keep the black one with the extra fluffy feathers around the head and feet because it's female....

But I'm still stuck on what to do with the others... I guess the "good" news is that the county fair is coming in a couple weeks and last year they had many of the birds for sale so I could buy there and have a better idea on what I am getting.

Lol.. it looks like someone was playing chicken Frankenstein. That is what my husband says when I am putting different birds together to come up with something new. Good news is you may have some really fun colorful eggs and some really cool looking chickens. I really like that third one, the one mostly white. That is a neat looking bird. If you are not going to show them then no worries. Like the other post said.. make sure you are honest when selling chicks or eggs and you will have no problems at all. Most people haven't the foggiest idea about SOP. They just want some layers that make colorful eggs.

cockerel

pullet

both of these are cockerels

I'm getting so frustrated with all of this because I know I have too many roosters now and not enough chickens....

Here is what I THINK I have based on all of your help...
Males:

BOTH of these two above are males...

And Females:

Just the one in the BACK of this picture above

Do I have this right...? If so that means 3 females and 6 males... clearly I have the wrong ratio... and this would explain why I saw two of the birds starting to fight today - they were both boys. I'm so frustrated by all of this. The person I got the "girls" from was someone I knew and believed - but clearly he wasn't being honest. I've had them about a month-ish and they were all about the same size then as they are now - so it's not like they suddenly changed and he made a mistake :(

Sometimes it is really hard to determine sex with those goofy combs. Have you heard any crowing? If they are nearly old enough to lay then the males would have been crowing for quite some time now.

Don't worry you are not alone with your heavy rooster ratio. I bought a batch of 20 chicks from a private breeder. They were not cheap and I waited awhile to get them. Of course they were straight run because only the big hatcheries have those guys working for them that can vent sex day olds.
Out of 20 chicks guess how many ended up being hens?? 5

I hatch my own chicks too. I have a pen right now that I have named "Chicken Soup". Cuz everybody in there is gonna be chicken soup. 12 cockerels... and I have plenty more boys...those are just the boys I know for sure that I am not keeping. The others I have not made a decision on yet.

I have actually had to force myself to learn to butcher chickens just because I have so many boys. Youtube is great...you can learn anything there. lol!!

The only one that ever made noise was the big all-white one. And I got him off craigslist from someone that said he was purebred Americana (clearly he isn't.) No one else has made noise.

I eat meat, I like meat, but I know that neither of my kids (nor I) could deal with knowing one of these animals that we're feedings, raising, watching, etc. are going to be eaten. I think I need them to be a bit older for that - we had to put a guinea down a few days ago and they both freaked. I will sell them and just tell people not to tell me if they're going to eat them and I'll pretend like they're going to a nice farm with lots of girls to chase :)

some times the only rooster that will crow is the dominate one and if you removed the crowing one now then one of the other cockerels will start to crow if not all of them
